In line with the new Apprenticeship Funding Rules 22/23, TQUK will no longer require evidence to be submitted against the “attempt of Level 2 Functional Skills” for ALL Apprentices on Level 2 Standards as part of the gateway process. This is with immediate effect.
Towards the end of July, the Department for Education (DfE) published the finalised Apprenticeship Funding Rules 22/23. These updated rules reflect a positive change from previous years in relation to the Functional Skills requirements of Level 2 Apprenticeships.
They outline that all Level 2 Apprentices are required to achieve and evidence Level 1 Functional Skills in both English and Maths before they can progress through Gateway to undertake their End-Point Assessment.
The key change details that now only Apprentices who already hold Level 1 qualifications at the start of their apprenticeship programme or where there is deemed to be sufficient time to make meaningful progress beyond achieving Level 1, will be required to work towards Level 2 and attempt assessment.
This update in funding rules applies to ALL Apprentices, both those already part way through their programme as well as new starts from August 1st 2022.
Following this update TQUK has proactively engaged directly with the DfE to clarify Gateway evidence requirements, challenging an EPAO’s position to determine if Level 2 assessment evidence should be submitted against individual Apprentices.
We are pleased to confirm that the DfE has approved our request to alter our Gateway evidence requirements.
Therefore, with immediate effect, TQUK will only require Level 1 Functional Skills achievement evidence to be submitted for ALL Level 2 Apprentices. You will no longer be required to submit evidence of assessment attempts for Level 2 Functional Skills.
Important Note
Training Providers are still required to adhere to the funding rules in full, and as such will be required to retain assessment evidence for Apprentices who are deemed ready to undertake Level 2 Functional Skills assessments.
